Comments: This is a Premium Pet Fish, and we never see premium fish like these in any of the live fish stores or online stores that we visit.

Premium Pet Fish are more energetic, hardier, and have brighter colors with a beautiful metallic sheen.

Origin: These fish's ancestors were Guppies and Endler's, which are closely related livebearers that have been hybridized in this case.

Maximum Size: In aquariums they can grow to be about 1" long, including their tails.

Behaviors: These fish are active swimmers and are not aggressive, but do quarrel with each other.

Compatibility: Some recommended tank mates include, Endler's Livebearer, Guppies, Rainbowfish, Danios, Aquarium Shrimp, small Gouramis, and many other small to medium size aquarium fish.

Temperature: They can live pretty well from about 65 to 80 degrees F., but they're probably most comfortable at about 74 degrees F.

Water Conditions: these fish seem to be tolerant of a wide range of water conditions.

Probably a pH of about 7.5 with high hardness is best.

Most water in the US but seems to be OK, so it's probably best NOT to adjust the pH or the hardness of the water.

Here in our facilities the water is hard and the pH is usually about 7.8.

Aquarium Size: It is probably best to house these fish in at least a 20-gallon tank, but bigger is better.

Decor: They don't need gravel, and a layer of gravel more than 1/4" thick will usually fill with bits of uneaten food that will contaminate the water.

Live Plants are beautiful and improve the water quality.

Life Span: they can live for a few years with good water and good food.

Gender: Males, as shown above, have brighter coloring and are usually smaller than the female.

Breeding: these fish are livebearers, the male fertilizes the eggs inside the female, and after weeks of waiting, she pops them out as little replicas of herself!

Popularity: this fish is rare and produced by only one supplier, who has been able to hybridize a stain of Guppies with a strain of Endler's to produce this very colorful hybrid.

Names: This hybrid does not really have a scientific name, unless we agreed to use Poecilia hybrid species.

Variations: it's interesting that all of these hybrids look very similar. We have not gotten any females.

Maybe as a hybrid they do not produce females, or maybe the supplier does not want to share females.

Don't worry about them being a hybrid. So are lots of other aquarium fish, such as: Serpae Tetras, Platies, Swordtails, Mollies, Angelfish, Oscars, and many others that are beloved aquarium fish.
