Above: The picture above shows a nice mature male premium quality Albino Congo Tetra about 2" long, swimming in one of our aquariums, when one of us snapped this picture.
Comments: This is a Premium Pet Fish, and we rarely see Premium Tetras like this one in any of the live fish stores or in any of the online fish stores that we visit.
Our Premium Pet Fish are more energetic, hardier, and have brighter colors with a beautiful metallic sheen.

Origin: This fish's ancestors lived in the Congo River Basin in Africa, but this fish was spawned and raised on a famous fish farm, and Congo Tetras now live in aquariums throughout most of the world.
Maximum Size: males can grow to be about 3.25" long including their tails. the females are smaller.
Behaviors: This fish is active and males will quarrel with each other but don't do much harm.
Compatibility: Some recommended tank mates include Kribensis Cichlids, Upside Down Catfish, Elephant Nose, Baby Whale, African Leaf Fish, and African Butterfly Fish, which are all African fish.
Plus Rainbowfish, Gouramis, Corydoras Catfish, Swordtails, Mollies, and other so-called community fish.
But not fish like Tiger Barbs and Serpae Tetras that will nip at their long fins.

Feeding: Premium Fish Food Flakes and Pellets. When young and small feed them flakes or very small pellets. When bigger feed them small pellets.

Water Conditions: This fish seems to be tolerant of a wide range of water conditions. Probably a pH of about 7 with moderate hardness is best.
Most water in the US has a higher pH and is hard but seems to be OK for this fish. So it's probably best NOT to adjust the pH or the hardness of the water.
If you want to spawn them, try slowly diluting their water with distilled water.
Here in our facilities the water is hard and the pH is usually about 7.8. We ship them in this water.
Click here for a lot more information about aquarium water conditions.
Aquarium Size: It is probably best to house these fish in at least a 20-gallon aquarium, when they're small.
But eventually they'll need an aquarium with at least 30-gallons, and more is better.
Keep at most one fish per gallon, when they're small, and one fish for each 3-gallons, when they're large.
Decor: They don't need gravel, and a layer of gravel more than 1/4" thick will usually fill with bits of uneaten food that will contaminate the water.

Live Plants are beautiful, improve the water quality, and are enjoyed by these Tetras.
Aquarium Filter: Bio-Wheel Filters are highly recommended.
A Penguin 200B Filter in an aquarium with 20 to 30-gallons of water is OK for these fish, but a 40 to 60-gallon aquarium with a Penguin 350B is better.

The addition of Lava Rocks will keep nitrates in the ideal range. Click here to learn more about using Lava Rocks in aquariums.
Life Span: They can live for several years with good water and good food.
Gender: The males grow bigger with longer fins and become more colorful than the females. The females fill with eggs and become plumper, as they mature.
Breeding: They scatter their eggs on plants or special breeding mops made of nylon yarn.
Popularity: This is a long time favorite and is still very popular.
Names: The scientific name is Phenacogrammus interruptus.
Variations: There is an albino variation that is slightly pink with red eyes, and there is a long-fin variation that has even longer fins. All of our fish are Premium Quality Fish from the best suppliers in the world.
