Above: In this picture is a nice premium quality Freshwater Gold Fiddler Crab, climbing on a Lava Rock in one of our aquariums, when one of us snapped this picture.
Comments: We rarely see Premium Quality Fiddle Crabs like these in the live fish stores or in the online stores that we visit.
Premium crabs like these are more hardy and more colorful and hardier than crabs from other sources.
Origin: This Crab lived in the Florida marshlands, where it was collected and shipped to us.
Maximum Size: In aquariums this Crab often grows to be about 2" wide.
Behaviors: They usually live on the bottom of the aquarium, where they like to climb on rocks.
They seem to like to get out of the water occasionally, so it's best to have a pile of rocks that gets above the water.
These crabs are also escape artists, so their aquarium must be arranged to prevent them from climbing out.
Compatibility: Some recommended tank mates include any community fish.
But some small fish, Shrimps, and Frogs may be easy for these crabs to get their claws on, so watch out.

Temperature: This crab can live pretty well from about 70 to 80 degrees F., but they're probably most comfortable from about 75 to 78 degrees F.

Feeding: Premium Fish Food Pellets.

Water Conditions: This Crab can tolerate a wide range of water conditions.
Probably a pH of about 7 with moderate hardness is best.
Most water in the US seems to be OK, so it's probably best NOT to adjust the pH or the hardness of the water.
Here in our facilities the water is hard and the pH is usually about 7.8. We ship them in this water.
Aquarium Size: These guys can do well living in a 10-gallon aquarium, but of course bigger is better.
Decor: They don't need gravel, and a layer of gravel more than 1/4" thick will usually fill with bits of uneaten food that will contaminate the water.
Rocks and out of water areas would be an excellent addition for these guys.

Live Plants are beautiful, improve the water quality.

Aquarium Filter: Bio-Wheel Filters are highly recommended.
A Penguin 100B Filter in an aquarium with up to 10 to 20-gallons is OK.

The addition of Lava Rocks will keep nitrates in the ideal range.

Life Span: This crab can live for a couple of years if their water is kept fresh.
Gender: Males have a big gold claw, like you can see in the picture above; females don't have a bigger claw.
Breeding: We do not know of these Crabs breeding in aquariums.
Popularity: These Freshwater Crabs are rather popular.
Names: This genus name is Uca, but we do not know the species name.
They are often listed as Uca species.
Variations: We do not know of any variations.
