Comments: The word Distichodus is the name of a genus of fish that includes several interesting species.

So far as we know, Distichodus species have never been spawned in aquariums.

All the Distichodus we have ever kept in our facilities have been imported from the wild in Africa.

Distichodus is often misspelled Distochodus and sometimes Distachodus.

Appropriate Home: An aquarium with at least 50-gallons of water, an exterior power filter with a BIO-Wheel, and a maximum of 1/4-inch of gravel.

The water temperature should be between 75 and 80 degrees F. Eventually a Sexfasciatus will need a much bigger aquarium.

Recommended Diet: Distichodus will eat live Ghost Shrimp and larger shrimp sold in supermarkets for human consumption.

Distichodus also eat worms such as angle worms available as fishing bait.

Distichodus also eat plants and you should regularly be fed spinach and romaine.

It would be very good, if you could get your large Distichodus to eat a pellet food that is rich in plant matter.

Compatibility: We have kept very few Distichodus in our aquariums, and we have kept those Distichodus for only a few weeks, until they were acclimated and ready to be shipped to the customers, who ordered them.

So we can't give first hand information about other compatible species.

Size and Lifespan: Lusosso are said by others to grow to at least 15" long, but we have never seen one longer than 10".

Their lifespans are unknown to us, but all Distichodus species probably live for many years.
