Comments: This is a Premium Pet Fish, and we rarely see Premium Fish like this one in any of the live fish stores or in the online fish stores that we visit.
Premium Pet Fish are more energetic, hardier, and have brighter colors with a beautiful metallic sheen.

Origin: This fish's ancestors lived in the Amazon in Brazil. But now they live in aquariums all over the world.
Maximum Size: males can grow to be about 6" long including their tails. The females are smaller.
Behaviors: This fish is active and males will quarrel with each other but don't do much harm.
Compatibility: There are practically no fish that will do well with this species, which is a scale eater that bites on all types of fish.

Temperature: They can live pretty well from about 72 to 80-degrees F., but they're probably most comfortable at about 75 to 78-degrees F.

Feeding: Premium Fish Food Flakes and Pellets. When young and small feed them flakes or very small pellets. When bigger feed them small pellets.

Water Conditions: This fish seems to be tolerant of a wide range of water conditions. Probably a pH of about 7 with moderate hardness is best.
Most water in the US has a higher pH and is hard but seems to be OK for this fish. So it's probably best NOT to adjust the pH or the hardness of the water.
If you want to spawn them, try slowly diluting their water with distilled water in our facilities the water is hard and the pH is usually about 7.8. We ship them in this water.
Aquarium Size: It is probably best to house these fish in at least a 40-gallon aquarium, when they're small.
But eventually they'll need an aquarium with at least 60-gallons, and more is better.
Keep at most one fish per gallon, when they're small, and one fish for each 3-gallons, when they're large. All of our fish are Premium Quality Fish from the best suppliers in the world. Our fish have better health, more energy and brighter colors, as you can see in our pictures on this website.
