Origin: The ancestors of this fish lived in parts of Haiti and the Dominican Republic. But now this fish lives in aquariums all over the world.
Maximum Size: In aquariums Limia can grow to be about 2.5" long, including their tails.
Behaviors: Limia are active swimmers and are not aggressive.
Compatibility: Some recommended tank mates include other Livebearers, hardy Tetras, Danios, Corydoras, small Gouramis, and many other small to medium size aquarium fish.

Temperature: Limia can live pretty well from about 65 to 80 degrees F., but they're probably most comfortable at about 74 degrees F.

Feeding: Premium Fish Food Flakes when small and small Premium Pellet Food when larger.

Water Conditions: Limia seem to be tolerant of a wide range of water conditions. Probably a pH of about 7.8 with high-ish hardness is best.
Most water in the US ideal, so it's best NOT to adjust the pH or the hardness of the water.
Here in our facilities the water is hard and the pH is usually about 7.8. We ship them in this water.

Aquarium Size: It is probably best to house these fish in at least a 20-gallon tank, but bigger is better.
Decor: Limia do not need gravel, and a layer of gravel more than 1/4" thick will usually fill with bits of uneaten food that will contaminate the water.

Live Plants are beautiful, improve the water quality, and are appreciated by this fish.
Aquarium Filter: Bio-Wheel Filters are highly recommended. A Penguin 200B Filter in an aquarium with 20 to 30-gallons of water is OK.

Life Span: Limia can live for a few years with good water and good food.
Gender: Males have vertical dark-ish bars and are usually smaller than the female.
Breeding: Limia are livebearers, the male fertilizes the eggs inside the female, and after weeks of waiting, she releases them as little replicas of herself!
Popularity: Limia are still rather rare aquarium fish but are becoming more popular all the time.
Names: The scientific name is Limia nigrofasciata.
Variations: There are a few different variations of Limia.
